The Yoga of the Universal Form of the Lord (Gita 11) IshvaraVishwarupa, Arjuna Fight, Yoga of the Universal Form of the Lord. Bhagavad Gita Chapter 11
The Yoga of the Universal Form of the Lord (Vishwarupa Sandarshana Yoga) of the Bhagavad Gita Spanish / English /Hindi
At the end of the previous chapter “The Yoga of Divine Glories (Vibhuti Yoga)” of the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna asked Arjuna why he needed to know everything that he had explained to him: The nature of the Atman and the origin and destruction of all the created things. As Arjuna's doubts had been dispelled by his explanations (“the supreme mystery revealed by the knowledge of the Supreme” Gita 11.1- Knowledge of Brahman), Sri Krishna was now going to reveal to Arjuna: The Universal Form of the Lord, thus who proceeded to grant him the “divine eye” through which he would see this cosmic vision.
Subject Syllabus:
Arjuna now wanted to know His form as Ishvara (Philosophy of Yoga), whose meaning could be translated as the Creator God, the Supreme Person- Parabrahman - or the personal God. In Shaivism, Ishvara is synonymous with Shiva (Maheshvara, Parameshvara, Supreme Lord) or also with a personal god (Ishtadeva). For Vishnuists, he is synonymous with Krishna or Vishnu. For the Bhaktis, Ishvara is one or more deities preferred by the believer. But Arjuna did not know if he would be able to behold that vision: “Arjuna: If Thou, Ο Lord, believe me capable of contemplating it, then, Οh Master of the Yogis (Yoga Ishvara), reveal to me Thy imperishable Self” Bhagavad Gita 11.4. Yogeshvara is a compound of two words, Yoga and Ishvara, and means “Lord of Yoga”, “God of Yoga” or “Master of Yogis”. The term is used exclusively for Krishna. And the Lord said: “Sri Krishna: Οh Partha, Behold My hundreds and thousands of forms, multiple and divine, diverse in their forms and colors.” Bhagavad Gita 11.5. Thus Arjuna was going to see the Lord as the entire universe (dynamic and static) - Divine Glories -, everything, absolutely everything created, was revealed as the only enormous body of the Lord: “Sri Krishna: Behold here today, O Arjuna the conqueror of sleep (Gudakesha), the entire universe, the moving and the unmoving, and whatever else you wish to see, all concentrated in My body” Bhagavad Gita 11.7. But this vast Cosmic Manifestation of the Lord could only be contemplated through the “divine vision,” which Krishna was to bestow upon Arjuna, an inner divine experience attained through Devotion (Bhakti Yoga) and Meditation (Dhyana Yoga / Raja Yoga): “Sri Krishna: But you can't see me with your eyes. Here and now, I by My sovereign power of yoga, Give you the divine eye” Bhagavad Gita 11.8. And again Sanjaya (minister of the Kauravas) appeared and said:
Swami Sivananda translated the title of this chapter as “The Yoga of the Vision of Cosmic Form.” The rest of this summary on the subject “Vishwarupa Sandarshana Yoga” is available exclusively to students of the Bhagavad Gita Institute
