Self-Knowledge, Self-study and the Bhagavad Gita

Keys to study the Bhagavad Gita: Self-study, Self-Knowledge and courage

How to study the Bhagavad Gita

Learning the Bhagavad Gita (Philosophy of Yoga) must be based on self-study and self-knowledge (“no one can learn for you”).

“Sri Krishna: By Thy grace, O Achyuta, my illusion has been destroyed, my understanding has returned. I am sure, my doubts were dispelled; I will fulfill Thou will” Bhagavad Gita 18 (Yoga of Liberation through Renunciation)-73

Just as Arjuna faced his inner fears or ignorance and ended up fighting and winning, so should you approach the study of the Bhagavad Gita.

You will not have Sri Krishna to reveal to you the Supreme wisdom (the most mysterious of all knowledge), but you will have Teachers and access to different versions of the Bhagavad Gita and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda, Gandhi, Swami Sivananda, Swami Vidya Prakashananda or Swami Sarvapriyananda.

But you should be the one who learns, not us who teach you, nuance is important.

This implies that almost our entire educational model is based on the study of written material (reading the Bhagavad Gita).

New Online Training technologies are fully utilized: you can access the course materials from anywhere in the World, download and print them, study at your own pace, note your questions and reflections, and compare the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita with your environment and your own Self. You can even explore other versions and interpretations.

And you must read the subject again, and once you meditate on it, that is when you will have a certain Knowledge about the subject and only with time (perhaps over a lifetime), Meditation and self-knowledge will you be able to transform it, perhaps, into wisdom.

If you have important questions, the teacher will try to guide you on how to find the solution, rather than giving you the solution. In many cases the teacher may not have the appropriate answer.

The Bhagavad Gita is based, among other principles, on Knowledge, self-knowledge (Realization of the Bhagavad Gita), Devotion, Action or courage.

“Sri Krishna: Do not give in to cowardice, it is not like you. Shake up your miserable, tenuous heart and arise!” Bhagavad Gita 2 (Sankhya Yoga)-3

Sri Krishna called Arjuna a coward for failing to do his duty (Dharma) to fight due to his ignorance, attachment and fear.

When Arjuna demonstrated faith in his teacher, that is when the Lord revealed the Bhagavad Gita for all humanity. The study of the Bhagavad Gita is not possible if it is not approached with courage.

Therefore, the study of it must be based on the concept of self-knowledge, where the student/seeker accepts this challenge and has the courage to explore the infinite inner world of him.
