The Universal Call: Translating the Bhagavad Gita for the Spanish-Speaking World

The Bhagavad Gita stands as one of the most profound spiritual and philosophical treasures of human history, offering timeless guidance that reaches far beyond its original historical context.
Recognizing the need for an accurate, accessible translation for contemporary readers, author and scholar Pedro Nonell undertook the extensive task of translating this sacred text into Spanish under the title The Yoga of Wisdom. This translation project was driven by a deep conviction that the Gita's core teachings are entirely universal, offering invaluable ethical frameworks for Hindus, Christians, Muslims, agnostics, and atheists alike.
By providing a clear translation directly aligned with traditional insights, this edition serves as a bridge, making deep Eastern philosophy completely accessible to the global Spanish-speaking community.

The Bhagavad Gita as a Shared Global Heritage: Translating Universal Ethics
Several reasons motivated me to do it:
1. I consider it to be a spiritual heritage of humanity. Its meditated reading, perhaps for a lifetime, enriches the person and in particular anyone related to spirituality, ethics or yoga.
2. I am convinced that its teachings are universal and valid for anyone, whether Hindu, Christian or Muslim. I also believe that both agnostics and atheists will find in the Bhagavad Gita profound wisdom, especially from an ethical point of view.
3. The Bhagavad Gita is not only a sacred book to achieve Spiritual liberation (Moksha). Its importance as a reference for facing ethical problems in the daily struggles of life, both for people and companies, has become increasingly evident.
4. The relationship between Hinduism, Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita is undeniable, and therefore with yoga and its philosophy, just read the titles of its chapters: They all begin with “The Yoga of...”. Anyone related to yoga, Philosophy of Yoga, ethics or spirituality should read and reflect on the Bhagavad Gita, considered a sacred and revealed book by Hindus, and therefore respect it.

5. I consider that one of the central teachings of the Bhagavad Gita is that of Harmony between religions of (“so many paths, so many religions”); This principle can be, together with Ahimsa (non-violence), the pillars of a global ethics model, so necessary in this globalized and digitalized World, especially in areas such as the African Sahel, where structural dialogue between Islamic and Christian traditions is increasingly critical.

The existing translations into Spanish, in some cases, and in my humble opinion, differed relatively from the original text.
